Q: How do I know I’m getting an accurate reading?
The tricolor LED pulse quality indicator provides visual feedback on signal quality.
Green: good pulse signal (stable and reliable)
Yellow: marginal signal
Red: inadequate signal
Wait for at least 10 seconds of continuous green before relying on displayed values. If readings fluctuate or blink yellow/red, reposition the sensor or try another finger.
Q: What batteries does the 2500 use?
Four AA alkaline batteries or the optional 2500C-UNIV NiMH rechargeable battery system.
Q: How long does the battery last?
AA alkaline batteries: ≈ 80 hours continuous use
Rechargeable NiMH pack: ≈ 40 hours continuous use
Q: Can I access stored memory data?
Yes. Use NONIN’s nVISION data management software and the 1000MC serial cable to download and view stored data on a PC.
Q: What happens when the memory fills up?
The device uses an “endless loop” system, automatically overwriting the oldest data when storage is full.
1. Install four new batteries
2. Verify correct polarity (see Figure 1)
3. Disconnect accessories
4. Check for corrosion and clean battery contacts
1. Ensure only Nonin accessories are used
2. Check all batteries and polarity
3. Replace sensor if necessary
4. Remove extension cable and test again
5. Ensure patient is not wearing nail polish
1. Replace batteries within two minutes to preserve settings
2. Inspect battery contacts and polarity to avoid the loss of memory
3. Press the advance button when powering on during download (“CLR NO” should appear)
4. Minimum two minutes of recorded data required for storage
1. Poor or no signal at sensor site—reposition or select a new site
2. Excessive motion or sensor failure—reduce movement or replace sensor
3. A sensor failure. Replace the sensor.
Marginal pulse quality—reposition or select alternate site
1. Low patient pulse strength; or the sensor site is poorly perfused; or the sensor is not correctly positioned. Reposition the sensor on the patient.
2. The sensor is attached too tightly, or tape or other items are restricting the pulse quality at the sensor site. Reapply the sensor, select an alternate sensor site, or remove the restrictive material from the sensor site.
3. Circulation is reduced due to excess pressure between the sensor and a hard surface.
4. Excessive ambient light. Reduce the ambient light, cover site.
5. Poor Patient circulation due to cold extremities – have patient exercise fingers or warm fingers with warm water.
